Cabby cut out hot when fan running

Was driving my cabby today run as sweet as plenty of fuel etc. the fan cut in at a junction and the car wouldn't pull just stalled. As soon as the fan stopped it ran fine. Then the fan cut in and same thing happened. Any ideas guys? It's a 1.8 carb with a webber.

the fan could be shorting something out causing it to stop the ignition coil from getting charge, try running two cables with a fuse straight from the battery  to the fan to see if it cuts out then

I think you could be right, Ive been looking under the bonnet and I think its the fan motor thats burnt out, as it was hot yesterday it cut in for the first time since i bought it! I've also noticed you can play a tune on the king lead its so tight! It also appears to have 3 new spark plug and 1 secondhand one! But she ran fine this morning although its not that hot so we will see what happens tonight

I found the issue with my car, it was the dreaded water in fuel caused by rotten filler issue. My filler looked fine but could just see a spek of rust, I just managed to stick the screw driver through it! Where's best place to get one?

I have found this out! I bought one from GSF (£44 after discount!) they had it one at my local branch thats only 3 miles away! It took me around 3 hours to tweek and fit. The one I had was harder steel that would only bend with heat! but its fitted and the tank re-fill and touch wood has stayed full! I just really hope this fixes my issue as the car is going to wales next monday!!!! Ek

Random, I think it's still got water in it.

has it always done it, or has it got worse since the damp weather started? if so it might be carb icing:

it actually started for the first time on thge hotest day we have had this year. I have driven the car 25 miles on fresh fuel. checked filters all clear. It runs rought between 1000-2000 rpm but ok after that so think theres an under lying electrical issue. However adding fuel additive it appears to have improved. I have booked the car into D&B carbs in nottingham to be checked and set up again. fingers crossed!

I've tried the icing issue and she ran like a dream on the way home! Can I leave the flap perminantly open?

you can indeed, its open most of the time anyway. just keep em peeled for another airbox with working flap.

does the flap open if you suck on the pipe? if it does maybe the sensor in airbox has gone or the vacuum pipe has fallen off the back of the carby
