Auto Choke and the Stalling Monster

Hey all.

Recently got a 1.5 GL for the missus.  Serviced it myself immediately as it had been left standing for a while, and and despite a few brake probs I got it through the MOT last week

The only issue I now have is this, and I can't see where the prob might be.

When I start her from cold, fires up fine after about 10 seconds of turning over, then the auto choke comes on, and she revs around the 2k mark for 5 mins.  All is fine and good, no hiccups, nothing.

Then for the next 5 mins, while driving if I take my foot off the gas, even just to change through the gears, she stalls on me, the revs just go down to 0  I don;t want this to happen when the missus is driving really… 8O

After about 5 mins of this stalling she levels out to tickover at 1k…

Anyone any suggestions as to a likely cause?

thanks
P

pull down unit needs looking at as do vacuum hoses (all vacuum hoses)

do you know which carb it is on a gl? gpt a choice of a 1b3 or a 2b3 i think.

both have a similer choke arrangment with a cross over bar from the throttle to a stagered cam. grease the cam.
also check your fast idle cam (which is on the throttle cam) the haynes give you the method for this.

Check for blockages in the water hoses too

thanks novocaine & madferret.  I'm not sure on the carb tbh…

on a quick inspection it appears one of the green pipes attached to the hub circled here is not attached to anything else, I can't see an obvious place for it to have come off. Could this be a cause?

Given I had the engine tuned when it went for the MOT you'd think summat simple should've been picked up…

wont help it.
there is a y peice behind the carb.
to the right of the carb there will be a pipe coming of the brake servo and going to the manifold.
from this pipe is a thin vacuum pipe with a black and white cylinder in it(this is a non return valve so if you ever remove it make sure it goes back in the same way) follow this pipe up to behind the carb and you will find the y peice.

its probabkly the airbox piece, block it off if it doesn't have a place for it anymore.
