2litre passat engine number location on block?

yo people, got a passat engine im using the block for the famous 2 litre conversion, i cant seem to find the engine code/number, any chance where i can find it, im picking it up onsat, got it fairly cheap so need to no weather its worth me cracking on with everything else, any ideas where its located?
its out of a 1995 and apparently its carbd?? not sure though
