2e pierburg carb

I have recently started running my 1.8 8v cabriolet after it sat in my garage over winter. Before this it hadn't been driving in maybe 4 months. When the engine runs cold it revs normally at 950revs or so. After warming up some it starts revving at between 1500 and 2500 revs, idling consistently high. It also very occasionally will make a loud bang after the engine is turned off (from the exhaust?) Talking to the previous owner and my gfs dad and examining the carb after a clean it could be the automatic choke isn't closing properly or is otherwise letting in too much fuel.

This isn't my issue however because my friend hasn't given me his very well maintained 2e off his mk2 1.6 driver which he removed (running perfectly) about a month ago for a Weber.
My question is can I bolt this carb in place of my 2e straight away or will I have to change some of it's settings?

Sorry about the long drawn out post
Other options / opinions very welcome :) Cheers guys

it could still be the automatic choke, changing the carb is all well and good but that doesnt do anything for the coolant channel o'ring which is in the inlet manifold and is the cause of many a faulty 2e2 carb. have a read of the 2e2 faq thread ;)

Felt SO good  :D  + it's was the first piece of work I'd done on the car except change the shoes and cylinders. Now I've done; oil filter, spark plugs, ht leads and distributor :)
