1993 1800cc clipper starting/idleing/running problem

hi guys……sorry for starting another thread as my problems seem to be quite similar to a few others on the board at the moment.

anyway my current problem is as follows…….

starting….. turns over when key turns but needs a couple of shots at it and even needed pumping on accelerator eartier just to completely start….eventually ran.

idleing…..idles at roughly 1300rpm but really rough.when i start to rev the counter then drops to around 900rpm and is even rougher until it gradually starts climbing…..very hesitant between 1000-2000rpm as if there is no power at all.engine basically sounds breathless.

running. the engine will run at 1300rpm for a few minutes then suddenly die for no reason…starts again first or second time and repeats the above.

would be very greatful if anyone has any ideas where to start on this…..
thanks
rob

thanks yeah ive read thru the faqs and cleaned the carb today…..everything seems fine on it.
i did find one of the ignition leads to be filled with white powder and needing replaced.could this be causing the problems above?
and also if i replace the ignition lead should i replace the plug too?

thanks

The actual roughness could be the lead and/or plug fouling the 1300rpm will be down to the carb itself I would think.

I would give it a complete service, new plugs, leads cap & arm :)
