1983 1.5 petrol, cutting out

i've just bought a 1.5 petrol and it keeps cutting out while driving along. i don't know too much about these cars, but i think it could be the carb. has anyone got any ideas? cheers

Could be carb icing.  Does it restart after a few mins? - check hot air flow

Or carb vibration - check the rubber carb mount.

Yes all 1.5's were carb. Could also possibly be dirt and rust getting in the fuel system from the a rusty fuel filler neck?
