1980 1.5 Carb not starting??
I have a 1980 1.5 Auto GLS which will not start, turns very slowly but no fire. Prior to this it started revving v low and cutting out, even when out of gear.
Its done 27k from new with all MOTs.
Ive changed the points coil leads plugs condenser rotor arm and vacuum pipe.
Any Ideas????
Thanks

It does as novo said, sound like a bad earth/poor starter, but if it's only done 27K I wouldn't have thought the starter faulty.
Possibly the oil has turned to sludge, something like that? :dontknow:
Does it spin faster with the direct connection?

Had it on jumps and turns over at normal rate but will not fire, just turns over.
Dip stick is golden in colour, just will not start?? Battery is 330a, not sure it is big enough, had battery checked and is ok.
Suppose could be damp, sprayed with damp start but no good?

are you getting a spark?
are you getting fuel?
did you set the timing when you changed the points?
have you put the leads back on correctly?
have you checked the king lead is giving a spark?
have you tried jumping it off another car?

1st question would be did you set the points correctly. ie at the correct point on the cam?

need to be set to the correct gap. 0.8mm from memory.
i.e. when the cam has opened the points the gap between them should be 0.8mm.
