1.8 GTI DX Type engine goes bang!!!!!
Iv just spent ?2000 on my beloved mk1 cabriolet. The car has been with me for the last 6 years, I'v roughly spent ?5000 on it including the purchase. My mates all think Im nuts and I'm wasting money but I'm having none of it, I'v just had a clipper kit fitted the whole car resprayed in alpine white to match the roof, full leather interior, BBS alloywheels, new tank, filler neck, new fuel pipes, internal pump, external pump new accumulator, brakes all round, spax coilovers, full exhasut system includind down pipe, clutch, reconed my gearbox new clutch, coil distributor, steering rack, clutch cable, hand brake cable, throttle cable, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, samco silicone hoses, thermostat, sump gasket, head gasket kit, rocker gasket, undersealed and all the basics plugs etc. . . The car has been standing for the last 6 to 8 months but I'v been frequenlty turing it over and leaving it idle its been running really sweet I'v had random people coming in from the street complamenting it as it was sounding so sweet. So any way I decided it was time to put her on the road got insurance, booked in for MOT (she would have aced it only if she made it) driving up the motor way oil light comes on and starts buzzing then suddenly a really loud!!!! pinking noise appeared pulled over oil was fine no leaks right level got her home then on the drive BANG!!! burning smoke from the top end now she wount even turn over buy hand at the crank I' m really gutted I dont know wether to laugh or cry my mates ( Ford heads) are all laughing saying its bout time I sent her to the scrap heap but I will not be beaten by this I wount give up on it I'v stopped answering the phone to a few of them. Any ideas please to what it could be anyone had this problem them selves I'm thinking oil pump low pressure pistons and big end bearings when she was driving the power was there there was no smoking or overheating nor any leaks and I'v run out of money now
