1.8 Cabby Carb Engine problems
I was travelling back home on the motorway on Saturday after the footy and the car was chugging & spitting out black smoke from the exhaust and it seemed it was not running on all cylinders.
I have had it in the garage about 3 times with the same problem and each time it has come out it runs fine for a few weeks and goes back the same.
When it went last into the garage they said to me the petrol was weak and my girlfriend suggested using normal petrol (i.e from Shell or BP) instead of supermarket petrol, and on Saturday I had filled up with petrol from BP.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and how to fix it was its driving me mad!!!

All helped a little but it still did the rough running on three.
In the end it was the ignition amplifier/module. It lives near the windsreen motor in the rain/scuttle tray on the right hand side (bonnet open looking into engine bay from front bumper)
Bought the part from Camberley Auto Factors for about ?30. Two seconds to fit (two screws and one loom connection) and not had a single problem since!
Hope this might help
