1.8 auto engine

im looking at buying a 1.8 auto cab mk1 golf but im unsure of what the engine is like in the 1.8's and also what are they like as a auto

What do you mean what is it like? Its a nice engine, 90bhp, plenty of power. Its a 3 speed auto so it feels a little low geared on the motorway. Easy to maintain and doesn't demand a lot. Not too hard to set up and get running sweetly on a Weber carb with manual choke conversion.

THATS GREAT DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT THE RESALE ON THE AUTOS IS LIKE ARE THERE PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT WANT AUTO ONES OR IS IT BETTER TO WAIT TO GET A MANUAL ONE

I've got an auto clipper & I was the same as yourself. A bit unsure about buying an auto. I went for a test drive in it & it's great to drive. You'll notice that there are quite a lot of auto's about so someones buying them. Also if you buy an auto, you know it's not been thrashed to within an inch of it's life in each gear by some wee daft boy racer. Good thing about the auto is not having to change gears, cause if your going from a new modern car with power steering, your going to need both hands on the wheel to turn it anyway. Only kidding. Go for it.
