1.8 8v Carb cutting out whilst accelerating

Hi guys I have recently (Sunday) brought a MK1 cabby, problem is when accelerating hard it judders and jumps about then cuts out no matter if i change gear or not.

Now i do have a rusty filler neck and have brought one, plan on changing it over and cleaning out the tank this weekend,  just wanted to check with you guys if there is anything else i should check? carb, leads, dizzy etc

Also the carb makes a strange whistling noise and i dont have clue what this is

 any help would be greatly appreiated

I'm no mechanic but i've had this problem once before and it turned out to be rust in the fuel tank getting sucked up and blocking the fuel supply to the carb, so that the car misses when you out your foot down. This would make sense if you've got rust in your filler neck, cause it's probably in your tank as well.

Whistling sound could be that the carb's not seated properly.

Like I said, I'm no mechanic tho. Cars can miss for all sorts of reasons. I'm sure somebody else on here will be able to shed more light on it
