1.6l engine onto 1.8 gearbox...
also will the 1800 cam be same duration as 1600?
what size pistons + crank do each setup use?
the other option is a 16v but will that be totally different fitting and parts?
cheers guys….

2. 1800 came with 3 cams over its lifetime, also bear in mind that early ones have mechanical tappets and later ones, hydraulic, meaning its not possible to swap unless they're same (mech or hydraulic). 1600 cam is longer duration than the later 1800 cams but the earliest 1800 cam is the same as the 1600 one, I think (I used to have a table of the various cams over the years, with their specs, but have now lost it).
3. 1800 is a bore and stroke of the 1600, so both measurements are slightly larger.
4. 16V shares a similar engine block and flywheel/clutch/bellhousing arrangement which means it can be fitted into a Mk1 with no great issues, although there are other aspects which need modification (inlet pipework, exhaust manifold, a little extra wiring of the ISV and ignition ECU, fuel lines, etc). There is a FAQ section which explains this popular conversion.
