1.5L golf gl with Pierburg 1b3... choke problem

I know, I know… scrap the 1b3 and fit a Weber.
not yet..
I would love to get the Weber from Crazyquiffs but I don't have the $300 to spend on that as of right now.. maybe in a week or so.. lol.

I have this carb running perfectly besides when started from dead cold.
I rebuilt the whole thing with the kit from Gower and Lee.

When the car is warm it runs flawlessly.

From a cold start:
if i try to accelerate the car will jump and act all crazy.
once the car starts to get warm it seems to behave fine.

is this from my choke pulldown unit?
I checked it and it seems to be working properly.  when I accelerate the plunger shoots forward.
I just recently re-hooked up the waterchoke and it seems to be working fine.. other than this apparent issue from a really cold start.

maybe I should just unhook the choke pulldown and not use it at all?
before I re-hooked up the waterchoke it wasn't hooked up either.

Maybe I need to adjust the screw on the front of the plunger??

I have yet to have the time from a very cold start to check its operation.. what should i look for?  from my understanding it should simply pull open the choke on acceleration.. is this correct?

the only information I can find on this carb are these two links.. one is in German and the other is fitted to a different engine so I'm not sure if the specs are the same.

any help would be greatly appreciated!! :dontknow:

hi,

i have had a lot of trouble with me 2e2 carb, dont know if they are the same, but i can only assume they are.

to the right hand side of the carb should be the choke cover with a hose going in and a hose going put. is the housing getting warm? after acouple of minutes it should be FOOKIN hot, if not there is a blockage in your inlet manifold which feeds this….. AGAIN I AM ASSUMING IT IS SIMILAR TO A 2E2

if there is a blockage it could be the o ring situated in the inlet manifold where it meets the head. these can perish and the wter ways are very small…bit of a ball ache i knnow…..

once the car warms up it will act normal which leads me to think the above...

the choke mechanism gets hot quickly and works properly (as far as I can tell.. the choke opens up decently quickly).. the only problem I'm having is on acceleration when the car is cold.

it will buck and hesitate and drive like crap.. as it starts to warm up this problem goes away.

if i just let the car sit at idle without accelerating it's fine.. that's why I think either my choke pulldown mechanism is bad or out of adjustment somehow.  :dontknow:

tomorrow I may try there if I haven't figured it out.. I'm going to monkey around with it on my own for tonight.

sounds like the pulldown is not working correctly and is knocking the choke of early. theresa a lever which is moved by the accelarator cable cam.
with the engine ilding from cold move that up the car should try and stall. let it drop back down and the choke will kick back in a pick the idle back up. adjust this lever up so that it is only moved when the car gets above 2 thou (i'll see if i can check for you the correct value).

on a side note how much was the rebuild kit. i think i may redo mine soon as a preventative measure.

I believe the rebuild kit was about $30 USD… I think it was like 15 quid?

Now when I went to drive the car this morning the car started.. the engine raced up to 2500 rpm then died..  this happened a couple times.  :dontknow:

so I drove my 97 golf vr6 to work  :banghead: (not that it's THAT bad.. lol)
I'm this [_] close to ordering the webcon carb from Crazyquiff's.. it's just under $300 shipped
