1.5 Uphill Chugging and Stalling

Hi
As I have as menchioned I own a Mk1 golf 1.5 carb (believe its the original).  Ive not had it long but it has started on some long steep hills to chug, loose power near the top and sometimes stall if I cant keep it running.  So only under load so far.  If it does stall I cant start it for about a minute.  This has only happened a few times but im now using the car daily for work and would like to get it sorted before it goes.

The tank is half full at the moment so I dont believe its rust in the tank ant the fuel filter is clean.

Any ideas on where to start.

Anyone got a vacum pipe diagram?

Could it be the coil?  Can I use a beetle coil (bosch blue).  Ill keep one spare in the car just in case.

If the weather clears up this weekend im going to give it a mini service, you never know.  I am not the most mechanicly minded so please keep explinations simple.

Thanks for any help

David

I have got the orginal diagram under the bonnet but wont be able to take a picture for a week as I am about to go to cornwall for a week. I would suggest taking out the back seat and removing the sender unit to see if you can see any water in the tank which appears as globules in the petrol. Have a feel around the top of the filler neck from the wheel arch . You will find lots of trapped mud and stuff around the top and may end up picking holes in it. You will see this if you have the cap off. Replacing the neck is straightforward and takes a couple of hours. The blue coil from the Beetle should be fine. Before all of the above you should ensure plugs, points etc are all in good nick.

Right.  Driving today and deffinatly happening more often or its just because im driving more oftern.

I have looked at the pipes and the ones that are connected look fine but im deffinatly missing a few.

1) On the airbox the two bits that are comming out the left of the box are looped together.  The one at the front goes to the one at the back.

2) The hose that comes from the front of the inlet pipe.  I believe part of the termo control has a screw in it.

3) Large heater pipe from inlet splits off to engine split.  I obviously know replace this and where it goes as this is still connected.

4) Theirs a pipe going from the brake servo to the inlet manifold.  After the one way valve theirs 2 pipes comming off with screws in.

Please could pleople let me know where these pipes should go.  If it matters if their not connected.  And if this is part of my problem.

Many thanks
