1.5 autobox conversion

I've searched through the forum trying to see if this has been covered, but i cant seem to find anything
Is there a straight swap for the 3 speed auto gear box in the 1.5?
I can deal with it, but the motorway miles are starting to get to me and i'd quite like another gear or 2 to keep the revs lower

Not really no. The only thing you could do is give it slightly bigger tyres, to raise the overall gearing. I had a 3 speed auto and didn't find it a massive issue on motorways though, its just a trait of being an older car (less gears).

I don't think top gear is much different between the 3spd auto and the 5spd manual - I've got a 1.6 slushbox and Mum's got a 1.8GTi and we're both doing in the region of 3k revs at 70 if I remember right.  I might be a bit off on the GTi but the difference definitely isn't all that big, if there is one.

That said, you might have a different box to me (don't know if there were any variants) so I could be wrong.

I think running some bigger tyres would be your best bet to be honest dude.
