1.5 Auto - How does it cope?
Hi Guys,
looking at a 1.5 auto, just wandering how they do on dual carriageway/motorway driving? What RPM @ 70mph?
What sort of fuel economy are people getting? Is any one using as a daily?
I have searched but most seem to relate to the 1.8 auto.
Cheers

I think 'AntF' has a GL Auto. Send him a private message for advice, I'm sure he won't mind!

hiya mines not an auto im afraid,
but they happily cruise at 70 with not much fuss atall, your looking at about 3300 rpm i think, at about 90 is when it starts to be a bit noisier. Saying that though, the autos are 3 speed AFAIK, but the engine itself should be fairly tame at around 70 anyway.
With regards to fuel economy, erm, depends really, mine is doing about 30-32 mpg at the mo, but an auto is going to be less than that.
I wouldnt have thought the auto will be drastically different though :dontknow:

Thanks for the info guys, from what ive picked up 3rd in the auto is similar to 4th in the manual, so with a relaxed driving style I should be ok for 30mpg i guess

About eight years ago I used mine to commute from Brighton to Guildford and on the dual carriage way bits the old chap managed fine. You don't really want to cruise too much over 70 but at that speed the engine was fine. Can't recall how many revs at 70 but I can check tomorrow. Around very quick off the mark, if that helps
3700 rpm at 70mph
3700 rpm at 70mph
