1.3 to 1.8 carb engine

Got a friend with a 1.8 carb engine going spare.

How much work is needed to put it in my 1.3

I know the engine mount needs moving, (any good guides to doing this)

Will the 1.3 fuel lines be fine? Does the gear linkage need modifying?

What are my options for radiator? (just had to replace the 1.3's one so If i could keep that would be nice as well as keeping the bay a little tidyer without the need of a expansion tank ect…)

Any help is much appreciated.

Dont know a lot... but as your going frkm small block to big block i would assume the gear linkage and rods would need modified yes.

and gear box, drive shafts, exhaust, cooling system, ignition wiring(?) lots of work. If you want more power sell the 1300 and buy a GTI.

As above, the total costs even without including your own labour are more than the engine. Its possible - some people have done it - but its normally uneconomic. If your 1.3 is working, you'll be annoyed if you did 2-3 weeks work and left yourself with a non-working 1.8.

Have you also factored insurance premium increase? Modified cars are harder (and more expensive) to insure than standard cars, so the option of selling and buying a more powerful car is a sensible one here.

If you really do want a list of parts, then the above mentioned items is a pretty good start. I'd add different springs, dampers, wheels and tyres too, if you don't already have better ones than the 1.3.

Cheers for he info. I'm a mechanic so can do all the work myself and know the 1.8 is a good runner. I was thinking of doing a 16v conversion at some point so would have been moving the engine mount at some point anyway. Wiring isn't a issue as got all the stuff i need to make new looms ect up.

I've got the complete donor engine and anything else i need so was just looking for a list of what i should grab off the guy and what i don't need.

tyres wheels and suspension have already been upgraded and will put a 16v servo in whilst i have the engine out.
