Rally on the Saturday - Part one sorted, now with photo
Hello, time is starting to speed up and wont be long till it comes time to sort out the route for the rally.
I heard a rumour that the rally was too long last year :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Anyhow, taking into account we need a stop over point that accomodates 80+ cars, which bits do you want more and less of?
More/less populated places to go through
More/less windy lanes
How long in time or/and miles driving before before a break at a stopover or return to Uttoxeter
Roads with opportunities to take photos from the car whilst driving or roads that keep the convoy tucked together
Thoughts please 8)

Defo the village run as that was by far the best seeing everyone's faces. A bit of windy road stuff but not too much…. for me it was all about people looking at the sheer number of the same car going past and waving  . Take last years and half it time wise maybe :dontknow: …. You done an absolutely fantastic job last year bud so same again just a bit shorter
Got to say this… for anyone that doesn't know - Gammy drove miles and miles to find a good route then drove it again and again to make sure everyone would like it…. a massive effort so we appreciate it Gammy. More maps this year as I think 80+ mk1's was more than any of us expected and I can say no it'll be far more than that this year … I might bring both of mine

got to agree with spud, whilst the run last year was a tad long i loved every bit of it, the missus fell asleep in the end so i was on my own, Ilove the country roads, great fun to drive on and as spud says, the look on the faces of folk in the village was awsome
I think whatever you decide on this year itll be good fun
regards

missed it last year, but looking forward to it this year,
Just one thought.. is it worth publishing the route in advance of the AGM to give those with satnavs a chance to program it in
Maybe publish it online on
gmap-pedometer.com
cheers

That's a good idea… let's see the route in advance. I enjoy the route /drive out, love the spin through the villages and snaking around country roads. a little shorter than last years marathon but definiately a highlight of the weekend… roll on july…

Markers such as orange dayglo triangles at junctions to point the direction.
There were times when the speeds were getting a bit hairy when drivers were trying to keep up with those in front so they didn't lose their way.
With higher speeds we (as a whole club) run the risk of an incident however small that may be. (Sorry for that bit of gloom! I'm NOT H&S mad you know!!!)

That is very true I for one was confused and worried about the speed I was doing to catch up…. it's more effort with the markers but would absolutely be all the better for it but. Great idea.

Thanks Spud.
Glad it wasn't just us who felt like that. All it would need is for a drive round during the Friday afternoon!!!!

Last year I had a plan of taking a few people round the route on Friday afternoon, so as we had people throughtout the convoy who knew the route, however…………..plumbing and wiring up the showers and a few other jobs knocked that one on the head :lmao: :lmao:
This year we're just going to do 6 laps of Uttoxeter High Street
All noted, keep them coming

I loved last years rally, even though I was on my own I had a fab time.
Gammy, if you need some help with the route and want to meet up in Uttox or want some help on the Friday let me know.
Think the idea of some markers showing the way is a great idea and a map showing the route.
Forgot to tell you about the photos my Dad took last year when we went past the JCB factory, the police pulled up next to him and asked him what he was doing? So he just pointed to the mass line of MK1's going past . Must of thought he was a spy!

Trying to keep 80 cars together is a nightmare, the easiest way is that you need to keep the person behind you in your mirrors not trying to keep up with the person in front, this will naturally slow the group of cars down. Everyone needs a map /instructions and if you are following other cars your co-driver needs to be following the map aswell.
I know how hard this is.
