Track day car - its running again after a two year lay off

Bought from my son and put back together.

Some of you may recognise it as the previous owner was an enthusiast and club member I believe.

It currently has a 1.8 8v, rear discs, 15" alloys and FK coilovers and is stripped out inside.

I am turning it into a road legal track based car. If you want to follow progress you might be interested in viewing my web site

Looks nice - the only thing I'd add is a duckbill spoiler (small or large) to finish the front end off…

I see you are looking to triangulate you rear beam, this is something I have been thinking about are you thinking rigid or adjustable?? Keep us posted on this

Speeding is like masturbation, everyone does it ,but it's not something you should record and put on the internet!!

looking good. Just wondering what your going to do about the air that catches the rear panel when the spare wheel well is taken out?

Was it your son's white mk1 I saw on edition38 for sale?

Ok. no probs.

Its something I saw on the `Keenes ??` car while it was being rebuilt. The very fast one that ran out of brakes at Castle Combe I think it was. Simple rose jointed struts but it will keep the rear arms geometry correct.

Thanks.

I will be mostly trimming the rear panel

Yes, you`re right, it was Jonathans car totally rust free Mk 1 with a Polo GT engine - went like the clappers  8) - recently sold. He now has a Mk 5 Polo GTi.

He loves Mk1`s but was tired of all the niggles he had in running them and wanted something more reliable for work. I`m sure he`ll buy another one some day.

The owner prior to my son had a centre exhaust which caught the road (or something) and it ripped off the back box and damaged the rear valance) and for some reason the factory exhaust slot was also lengthened??

So I cut it back and to get rid of the wavy edge riveted a small piece of ally angle to it. (one day I`ll weld a rod along the inside or replace the lower valance with a new one)

It doesnt look too bad and tidies it up a bit but makes the exhaust look mahoosive   I`ll rustproof and overpaint the edges next weekend
