Thanks madone, your support (and everyone who comments on resto threads) is what makes a resto thread so worth doing and enjoyable, knowing someone is watching and thinks you're doing a good job, makes it much more fun and bearable at hard times.
This Tuesday started last night :? , when I once again braved Monday night resto.
It's definitely woolly hat cold
BUt once again, a new tool makes me forget about the fact I could die of the cold, or that I have to be somewhere else, and I have visions of torque wrench jouys
So I get out there, the cyberia of my folks garage, and I think (normally would have a fag at this point, but I'm fag free for 7 weeks! :rthumb: mon the lungs ) what's the plans tones. At this point I took a picture of everything I have still to do…to save you a million pictures, most of which you've already seen from a different angle. It went like this..
bleed that brake, then bleed that brake, then bleed that brake, then bleed that brake…
while bleeding brakes, check torque of nuts i've changed/replaced or just touched, just so happens that's all of 'em
then sort a few things in the bay such as my battery tray.
sorry couldn't resist. Also need to sort the paintwork round the mount (just a wee touch up) and sort the coolant tank, as it's slightly narrower than the orig. and I need to make it fit better.
With that all done (as I've probably listed here loads - I like to make sure I'm still on track ) it's onto interior…sort everything, new seats included, then get new rooflining, and tune in some tunes - before getting all upholstered and fitting new dash. Then get the whole car painted (replace doors) and it's done, just like that - oh and maybe fit some new wheels
so it started with the rear drivers side brake, and I was looking for a torque setting for the wheel bearing nut, when I read this:
ARE you kidding me?? I've spent £70 on torque wrenches and haynes is telling me to tighten it til it's not shoogly??? so i tightened it, till it wasn't shoogly, and found something else to use my clickety wrench on
I needed a wee pee break, and opened the garage to…
Christmas again!! kinda makes me glad, I'm not missing nice roof down cruising weather.
a pee in the bushes later and I'm there again, yup…
Bleeding that bloomin brake. Will I snap the nipple? Will I get covered in brake fluid?
noooo……
i mean yeah, course!
as first feared though, it isn't my newest union, between brake pipe and flexi
high five i guess…
…and seeing it's coming from the pipe>cylinder bolt, I take this wee guy
and tighten said bolt…till it's all rounded to buggery, but properly nice and tight
…of course it's still leaking, oh pessimist reader.
and thank god for vice grips, I remove the bolt i just made all round, and discover
dodgy flare job, honestly, who has been working on this??
Bit unusual to have new and old shots of parts that you replaced, and are now replacing again, did i mention I'm new to all this?? but here's another new bolt.
A bit of this later…(the flaring kit that I thought was expesnive considering how little I'd be using it  )
and we had this…
and then this…
[applaude]
Then this…
[stand and applaude]
without leaks….anywhere.
[whistle and whoop!]
Sorry, back to reality…it's -4 and your bleeding brakes….
my front caliper, with pads all tight, this is going to plan!!!!
My brakes are all bled, and the car now stops…..the pedal is tight……for the first time since I've owned it, the dreamboat's got some stopping power…
I'm cheesing, I'm delighted, the resto gods are letting me have a good night, could it be the new torque wrench, bringing all this luck and good fortune?
:bang: this was a very hard picture to take….
remember kids : if you're going to go around every nut and bolt, checking it's torque…loosen it before you tighten it to the correct torque!
well, as they say in….as my mum says…no I'm sorry, i was just stupid, and I snapped a nut on the rocker cover, any ideas how to sort?
While we're on the advice, any ideas what's causing this and how to sort??
anyway, it was getting late so I called it a night…
Today I drove her out the garage to take my car shot for you all and my desktop
Then turned her round and put her back in the garage ready for everything I listed at the start, have you not been reading?
then I fitted a new rear mudguard and water bottle
Sorry, Dreamboat resto thread…
I called it a day and look forward to comments, advice and next week.
Peace.
The Dreamboat's gonna be dirty, I'm thinking my Mountain bike is gonna be a show bike though, seen as I've not been out on it yet!!!

3. some ice and sounds?hmm (i not sure it will fit though :dontknow: ) ,we'll see bout dat okey..
4. you wanna put her butt on a diet (i'm totally agree with ja mate, her butt is to big , jea, i've notice dat..ough damn! you know cars)
 n.have a great taste..
about the porsche seat,i've done some clay model for its back seat cover, i'll send you some pic, maybe you will be needing those cover to, bcoz ,to be honest, i dont like the looks of it from behind, its to plain, and most of the time, your cab will have the roof open, people could easily see directly to your back seat..i think we sholud give some style in it dont ja think?..later i will sent you the pic.. ..just wait mate okey..

Going to get my seats reupholstered, so they will be looking sweet anyway.
So apart from adding the porsche bucket seats, the front (up until the back of seats) is completely standard. I just need some help and ideas with what to do with the back seat/boot area and hood.
The original seats are too big, and the boot to small, while the hood is just big and in the way. I want to make the hood less cluttered looking when it's down, while making the back seat space more useful, perhaps by using it as a boot extension? and installing some speakers back there?
I'm not bothered about more than 2 seats, and it's not important that my bike fits, i got a jeep for that.
thanks in advance for some cool drawings.

Cos I missed a week I guess…truth is I was working on brakes last week (still) and was sick off taking photos of brake pipe and flaring…
thanks to everyone who helped me do it though, I finally sorted my brakes!
This week was good, I spent a good 4/5 hours in the freezing cold of garage and achieved most things I set out to..
got that bolt i snapped out…
and replaced.
got some things ready for the big paint off next week
(sorry it wasn't this week but I spent a long time finally sorting the brakes.)
going to spray my battery tray too
and my brake cylinder
and then replaced my drivers door, full of dents and scratches, with my new one, absolutely mint.
(this took me about 10 minutes single handedly, I was shocked. As I still haven't got the passenger door off yet, despite spending hours back in the early days of this resto…..the right tools totally make a difference.
So today I finished the brakes, I now have new rear drums, cylinders, flexi hoses and brake pipes!!
NExt week It's finishing off in the bay and then into interior.
I've managed to save about a grand for my paintjob too, so I'll start looking for a willing painter now that winter is drawing to an end.
Sorry about the dull update…but know this….
I'm STILL AT IT ! ! !
Peace.
P.S. Members, I'm running for COTM and if you haven't yet, please consider voting for the dreamboat.
I know she's not finished yet, and a bit of a mess, but she's gonna be wonderful and isn't a mid resto car what this site is all about?(….kind of)
Go on, just let me have COTM so I can show everyone.
Thanks.

This week started with a bit of spraypainting….
ok, so it's off my friends fiesta
but spraying's always fun, and the job's a good un, fogs and rear reflector clusters blacked, and top grille. :rthumb: nice one wee stu.
Then I did my own painting, using none other than some twigs to clear make space for spraying.
Primed
then newly shiny.
finally finished my handbrake(looks new) is using vw black here too much attention to detail?
sanded my rocker cover again
Black or proper polish!?!?! you decide, let me know what you think looks best.
done for today.
So obviously never got that much done today, but had fun doing some spraying, and not touching brakes.
Also decided that I'm gonna put some sounds in the rear instead of the rear bench - but i change my mind pretty often, so nothing's stone.
Anyway, till next week.
Comment, it makes this malarky way more fun.
Cheers.

anywho, for those interested, here's a photo of the new place.
this is from my living room and shows open planness, the fact it very much used to be a factory, and the height. Though I've taken several, no picture can really demonstrate how ridiculously huge the place is. And hard to heat. Thank god for Tesco's special offer on halogen heaters!
The wee dreamboat was who I really had to apologise to for neglecting, but I was down last week, painting the rocker cover… again - new halogen heater came in handy
got it shiny black this time, instead of dull grey
that's all I had time to do, but I was back in today for the first full day in a while.
with the battery tray, master cylinder and suspension mount freshly painted
the freshly painted rocker cover looked bang on.
trial fitted.
sorted. I also sanded and autosoled the metal thing on top of the head, behind rocker cover, pardon my technical ignorance, I haven't read haynes in a while. BUt it came up shiny, and so I decided to let the car run for a while and go on another wee gunking spree.
nice and clean.
I set about changing three odd screws I used to put my filler neck back in, after having to drill out the originals some two years ago.
before
and after
with a shot of a new and old screw (the only remaining original one)
I've got a fresh new sticker (gasket) to put over my new screws, but gonna put that in the list of things to do when the car comes back from paint
tonne of white smoke while it ran btw, any ideas? looks very unhealthy.
cleaned up the back of the dreamboat, and the boot.
pulled out the 2, I reckon original boot cards, both in a bit of a nick… Will hopefully have some fun in the coming weeks making new ones in true DIY fashion.
here's a sneak peek of the finished dreamboat rear end, I finally caved today, after haivng these under my bed for about 5 months now.
I don't love 'em, but won't chuck them out just yet, as it'll obv. look different with the bootlid on etc.
this is how i left it.
And as a sorry for leaving it so long, I'll maybe be updating again later this week.
Thanks for reading, commenting, being my friend etc.
Peace.

Keep it up, can't wait to see the finished results. My cab is in getting painted at the moment and I've found myself searching through this site without realising it - must be missing her. The girlfriend is so fed up of me being on this site I think she'd be secretly relieved if she caught be surfin porn.

my first idea is..why dont we make a hard top cabby..(i'm not sure wat to called it?) but one thing for sure, you will get,eee.. kinda corrado silhouette but shorter.. ..here some of quick skecthes dat i've made..
if you notice the back end..i 've made some kinda duck tail on the tailgate..(you said dat, you hate it the bulkiness from it, souw i have made a lil change to generate better silhouette.. here is the back side view,
ouw..and one more thing..you will have a bigger tailgate glass..coz we will using a hard top.. :dontknow:, maybe..i'm not sure you like it, but i think..it will distinguish your car form others ..
and this is the ideation process…
..ohh i'm not sure dat u've seen the design dat i've made for mr.bluelabel (crazy project)..why dont you check it out..perhaps we could generate ore ideas from it.. :dontknow:

Shane, if I was very rich, I'd give you my golf and a wad of cash, but as time and money are both factors in my resto, I will more than likely keep the car as is, but continue to clean it up and make it look new. Love your work though, there's def a future for you in car design.
This week I started making bootcards, i've got photos but my camera is back in the flat where I haven't got internet.
So just to let you know I'm still at it, and I'll upload pics and more asap.
many thanks for the words.

I've got broadband in the flat!!! WOOP WOOP, thanks to T-mobile mobile broadband, i am now online and from here to completion will be able to document the dreamboat's progress every week. Hoorah.
Feel's like I haven't been in in ages, but here's some pics you haven't seen.
Went to homebase to find some wood to make new bootcards out of….brought some of this home…
3mm MDF
and
a staple gun to attach whatever I decide to attach to it, to it.
First I attach the old rotten bootcards to the MDF by using ….hmmm, my new staple gun!?
I stencil it on the wood, and mark what's waste.
Take a trusty wee blue hacksaw, and cut it oot.
then sand the edges, so it's all nice and smooth.
And you have a nice new bootcard.
All I need to do now is drill some holes so it can be clipped back into the boot, and cover it…or paint it??
Suggestions welcome..
Oh, and of course, do the other side!
See you's Tuesday.
P.s. thanks tmobile.
