Looks awesome Jon, if you decide to change your interior let me know - I have the same in my Mk1 Polo but it's completely worn through.
It'll be crazy with a 20VT in it, you might have to go for bigger wheels though, so the brakes to fit under and for it to get the power down.
If your keeping the worn paint patina try get some Ankor Wax. It's what the aircooled original/ratlookers use to preserve their original worn paintwork without any rust areas getting any worse. It gives a matt effect but would save her from rusting away. 8)

mk1 polos use the same stuff, but i know its very rare to get hold of. but houndstooth is a common pattern so if you were to completely retrim, im sure you could find something very similar
p.s car looks proper awesome mate! id give my left nut to own that.

progress!!!
got loads done ate the weekend.
this is how it looked saturday morning
removed the old 1.1 suspension
got these bits of a 16v mk1 (g60 front brakes)
took the complete front suspension, uprated roll bars, polybushed, lower brace, g60 brakes, koni coilovers
also took off the entire rear beam, uprated roll bars, polybushed, koni coilovers
the car is now up on stands to swap the fuel tank and put in the 20vt.
i am getting all the suspension bits powder coated black ready to re fit.
i have the engine and box mounts but i am unsure how the gear linkage works????
do i use the mk4 selector???

Looks good although, personally, I would have sorted the bodywork before messing with the engine.

the engine is going to be fitted run for a few weeks to check it is all sweet then removed, bay smoothed then put back in.
i didnt think it made sense to paint it all then scratch it or something figuring ou the engine.
