Mk1 GTi cabby project
As bought on ebay 3 weeks ago.
Set of run down, worn out and flakey Polo Gti BBS split rims bought on ebay.
Rims broken down and ready to be prepped for paint @ iKustoms - check them out
iKustoms website
Centres prepped
Rims before and during prepping
Centres in paint - yummy!!
Rims in paint - you see where we're goin with this!
Rims during build up - what do you think? Be interesting to hear both positive and negative feedback. These splits are certainly splitting opinion locally! Personally I love them, very different and a real break from the norm.

So, with the wheels sorted we held a board meeting at iKustoms with the Head of the Lowering Stick department. Shortly afterwards this box arrived from the Fatherland!
Front setup - new V old
Installed
The first glimpse after a late night spannering at the inaugrual www.ikustoms.co.uk Friday Night Slam Night!
Followed by stage one of detailing as the paint was in terrible condition, so flat it looked matt black. First hit with the snow foam!
Bit of spit and polish buffing courtesey of Meguiars
And a lump of clay later we we're definitely getting some reflection back at last!
So, a gratuitous before and after shot!
More detailing to come and maybe some suspension adjustment but that, for now, is that!
All comments, good and bad welcome as this is my first MK1 so I'm pretty new to this world having been aircooled for the last 13 years!

Like the wheels, though dare I say it - I think it is too low!
Lovely finish on the paint. What was that Foam stuff you used?

Thanks! I checked your cab thread out during the week whilst working on mine. VERY nice, love the interior. If I keep this I'll be sorting the interior and attacking the engine bay like you've just started!
AL_Mk1 Haha! You're right about the suspension. I will be bringing it up, but literally an inch or so - nothing drastic. Just enough to stop the rubbing! Also looking at spacers all round. Front needs some wheel/strut clearance and I think the rear could do with fattening up a bit - what do you think? The snow foam is exactly that. It's a product that pretty much 'cleans' your car before you wash it down meaning you aren't just pushing dirt around all the time. It's awesome stuff! Did it round my mates who is a true OCD car detail man!

Yeah - 'bout an inch…
I know what you mean about strut clearence. When I first dropped mine I have Mk2 tear drops on it and the tyres caught the spring seat. Luckily, the Alley Cats I got now have a slightly lower offset, so gave me the 10mm clearance that I needed.
The Polo rims probably have quite a high offset, so spacers will deff sort it out…

Your car is looking great, does it have grey leather interior, it almost looks like it does??????? Am trying to track down my first ever car GOLF GTI CONVERTIBLE H reg, Black, Grey leather, grey carpets and knee bar, white headlining, originally registered around end of Feb 91 or 1,2nd of March 91. It always had a private plate so I never knew the original plate number :-(

Hi, sorry, has everything on your list except the leather! Seats are cloth but are not the og ones as the previous owner swapped them out before I bought it, I have no way of knowing if they where leather tho! Also, registered 18th Feb '91.
Thanks for all the positive comments!! I have tweaked the rear suspension today due to some 'clearance' issues! Looking out for a decent set of seats if anyone knows of some for sale?

Hi, thanks for getting back to me, I am still really curious...does it have electric windows?? And also, my old vw used to have a fitting in the right side of the passenger foot well of an old car phone, I belive it was screwed into the carpet somewhere. I would bloody love to know if this was mine, but I just dont have any other info, I am trying to think of any other marks that may set it apart, I know at the time it also had central locking fitted when brandnew linked to an alarm............but the registration date is about spot on...........

Oh yeah, it also had a cd changer fitted in the boot on the left side (I think) so there would be screw holes on the boot floor in that area :-)

is there no way the DVLA can tell you what original registration of car was even though you had it on private plate?
Might help your search :-)
