took some pics of the inside of the rear mounts and it looks like the rusty one has been attempted before. not very succesfully:


this is the passenger side:



and here's a few of the underside:





all looks sound to me. :mrgreen:


heres some of the sills:



and does anyone know if you can get a replacement for this???? :(

I can't see it properly from here. Try a search - there is a reference diagram, of available panels, from Hadrian panels. Then you can find out if they did a repair section for that area. Then you need to find a local stockist and see if its still available.

looked yesterday, looked at loads of diagrams, none matched.

theyhave a stockist in burt st edmunds. about 10 mins away.

removed this litle lot:

looks like a very tidy :wink:  repair.

the other side looks fine tho:


the petrol tank has never been removed in 25years:


looks like i've gotta remove that plate and clean her all up, before making up a tidy little plate to go in its place.

and gear linkage has some up and down movement when you push it up from the bottom, is this normal?

All looks a very familiar area to me! Just make sure you check it all thoroughly, and make repairs by removing all the rotten metal surrounding an area, then weld a patch or whatever, over it. Looks like a reasonable previous repair. I wish the guy who repaired mine previously (VW specialist, not a DIY job either....) had been as careful....

i was going to remove the piece that has been put on clear it all out and make a nice plate to go back in.

the bit taken of are all in very good condition.

exhaust system is a new genuine vag item. a new filler neck, again genuine vag. and new bilstien rear suspension.

someone loved this car!
