mk1 16v project

Thanks for the comments guys, ill have a look into the blower motor area, I have got a rain tray cover on but it has a few cut out in it to allow for the single wiper motor, but there was quite a lot of water in the car so I got a feeling it's coming from elsewhere aswell

Hi. Just had a great read of your thread, some top work going on!
You did it a while ago, but can I ask what stonechip you used? Was it a smooth finish? Also have you had any problems with the filler cracking in your smoothed bay? Did mine, but when I straightened the top of the inner wing with a hammer to fit the wing mine cracked!:ocf_emoticons__BangHead:

The stonechip? U on about the stuff I used in the bay? I think
That was just stuff from
Halfords, wasn't halfords own brand but it was one they sell, can't remember if it was a
Smooth finish, think it was tho, also I have had a few cracks in the filler but that's only from Where I filled round the top of the strut top mount and cuz of the car being a bit bouncy due to
Being on not the best of coilovers I'm
Presuming that's wats caused the crack but other than that there's no crack :)

well I think my project is need of an update so here we are….

got the engine all put back together

took the kr engine out ready for the swap over

got crazy quiffs to modify the o2a shifter for me so it fits without and mods to the car and looks stock (it even used the original holes that the stock shiftyer fits with)

id just like to say I know that crazy quiffs are a bit expensive but they are bluddy good at what they do and have got me out of a lot of s**t with this car so for that I wud highly recommend there work to anyone :)

ok back to the build

got the steering column back in with the home made hydro clutch setup on, am gonna need to modify the heater pipe fit it to fit but by the looks the pipe wont need much taking off to fit :)

also bought some weitec 60/60 shocks and springs for the motor, bit of an issue with the height of it atm cuz it still seems a bit high but hopefully once its settled and everything back on it wud drop a bit more

and vvvvwwwwwaallllllaaaaa abf engine and gearbox in!!

also got a few bits powdercoated, I did get other bits done aswell but I forgot to take some photos of them

that's all for now, but I will be doing more stuff today on it aswell so shud be another update soon :)

not really an update but more of a progress report :(

sadly after a while of trying to get my car started, did a compression test on it and it was reading stupidly low.
I then decided to ask the person who id bought the engine from weather it was definatly a runner before they sold it me which they assured me it was def a runner (even tho theres no way that I could find out) all I can do is take there word for it.

after much thought about why it wouldn't fire up I rang up crazy quiffs (rich is a legend btw, he is very helpful and always get me out the s**t), he sed theyd had the same situation with a valver that they had in, turns out it was a powdercoated inlet manifold!!!!!! apparently the grit from the shot blasting imbeds in all the areas that u cudnt see so when u get it back it looks clean but really its not, as soon as u start the engine it sucks all the grit into the engine and basically f***s everything up.

heres where im at now.

had to take the engine back out to inspect everything properly and what I found wasn't a very good sight :(

scored the bore!!

pistons are knackered!!!

my old man sed that at some point the eninge must have been seized cuz cylinder one was a mission to get out and also the rings are seized in the piston, I wish id of checked these as soon as I bought the engine, I cant say for sure that all this was caused from the grit or weather the engine was a non runner I just wished that Id checked these first cuz then id def know if they were like this before :(

well more money will be needed to be put into the endless pit again because of this!! I just wanna drive the bloody thing!

heres what it all looks like now :(

Really sorry to read this mate, it's unfortunate that people sell duff things as working for one. But I've also read people having rockers etc powder coated and ruining the block :(

I feel for you, I really do, but I'm 100% sure you will get it sorted and you just have to be patient, the drive will be so much worth it again, I love mine now!

Bad luck mate. What's your plans? Rebuild or replace?

Well it turns out i wnt be getting the engine sorted :( ill be sourcing another :( aparently the pistons that are over size for this engine are impossible to find the only ones that are about is forged and i dnt really wanna pay that much for pisyons that im not gonna use properly,.so looks like another engine is to be sourced, which ive found already goin pretty cheap but this one i wnt be takin it apart and painting, itll be goin straight in the car
