nice little project

for an early Mk1 those inner wings don't look too bad.. mine were as bad as that and managed to repair them myself (previously never welded)

Looks like a good buy there. Is paint original, didn't know you could get a GTI in that colour? Get to work on it :borg: .

Good luck

yea the paint is origional, bar a crappy respray in same colour !!! it's everywhere, lol
I'd never seen a gti that colour before and I love it so it's gotta stay, real contrast with the red tartan interior….think it'll look well smart with a red surround grill too (which is what it came with)
At the moment she's gotta take a back burner to my black mk1 though as the mrs is gettin well peed at me havin 3 cars. just cant explain enough how rare the 79 is and I had to have   :banghead:
My 81

Gotta get the gearbox in, and fit 4 branch maifold, exhaust, sand down and spray the sunroof, and give some rust treatment.

Good luck with the resto mate. Get stuck in there!

There was a thread about that colour a week or so ago. Apparently its an imported car if its in that colour as it was never an option in the UK.

I have one but i honestly dont think theres a lot in there that isnt in the haynes mk1 golf workshop manual and haynes bodywork repair manual, infact i would just buy these two as they have more detail (imo)
