GLS Cabriolet

Here are some pictures of my project: 1982 GLS Cabriolet Indiana Red Metallic 105k miles.  Its been untouched under this dust sheet for 9 years.  Going to start in September with a friend who knows his stuff (I'm new to mechanical stuff).  I bought the Haynes Golf restoration manual but having browsed through the forum over the last week there is so much info here I hardly need it!

Looks like a fab find.

From the pics body looks A1. Noticed its had a recent new fuel pump, hope tanks not full of muck via a rotten filler pipe.

Brake fluid cap looks split too, but easy to fix.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Interior looked OK - a bit of mould on sides of seat and underside of roof.  Mouse had eaten a cardboard box left it the boot but hadn't touched any wiring!  Needs a new front spoiler as old one got taken out by hitting a a rabbit.  Only mods I think were alloys and wheel arches and it has had a new filler downpipe in 99 as it had a hole in it and engine kept cutting out in wet.

Plan is to get engine up and running; get alloys looking nice (any tips?) and need to change from leaded to unleaded - what is best way?

My old man always fancied puting a GTI engine in it and power stearing but I'm not sure……

here are some pics of interior

Interior looks alright mate.

If you're gonna do an engine swap you may as well put power steering in, cause if you really want it and don't do it, you'll kick yourself, cause as far as I'm aware it's an engine out jobby anyways?
