86 Gti cabby project/16v conversion

Hello al just bought an 86 gti cabby for a summer long project.
planning to restore the car fully get it looking mean how it should and put a 16 valver in there also plan on a rear disk conversion

was wondering what you guys recomend engine wise?

Have done a bit of reading up and it seem the 1.8 kr is the easiest ontion but would like the 2 litre :)

There is 2 off us doing this project being my self and mechanic friend lee.

I belive theres a 16v conversion rar file knocking around so if anybody has that would be great if you could send it me.

the cars in the rip it apart stage and the engines probly coming out wednessday/thurday

what im looking for at the moment is a shopping list off everything i will need from the donner car as ive sourced a mk2 valver bein broke just 2 miles from home:)

will add some pics of the car later and put updates on as and when we do them.

just feels great to be a mk1 owner agin (had 2 cabs in the past)

Catch u all very soon :P

these are the car when i bought it 25th may 2009 towed it home in my berlingo van using an a-frame and the golf had a rear tyre blow out on the motorway lol

Then we stripped the car off the body kit and removed the 2 rotten front wings

and sorted the issues on the front pannels and inner front wings

You look like you're making good progress mate. I have to say though that wide bodied Cabby was in it's day a great looking car. Not sure if the Dimma, Rieger kit look is still current though. People tend to go a little more understated. If you're looking for a kitted Golf there's one on here somewhere, can't remember who's it is though, not my thing but I'll have a look around for you.

Keep up the good work.

T

update

Just a ittle up date a few little jobs done today including cleaning and paiting the 16v gear box, its not perfect but im happy with the outcome and its a drastic improvement from a grubby oil stained box  :D

Also had a visit from my paint guy today and as ive had loads of stuff done by him in the past and givin the current climate hes aggreed to paint and sort out and rust issues on the car inside and out for a grand  :D  but thats on the basis he does it between jobs so wants it for about 3 weeks
Decided to go for a pearl white in the end, its the 2009 bmw paint code.
Will be goin into paint in a couple off weeks

also put up a makeshift garrage on the drive as we keep gettin annoyed of with the bloody showers

lol

Corrado seats?

Has any 1 here ever fitted corrado seats in a cabby ? is it difficult? we have access to a mig melder and can make up some brackets if required also do the fronts go straight in or do i need the subframes off the mk1 seats before i skip em ?
thanks
