I've gone and got myself a Golf Clipper 1989. It's alright but suffering from the usual fuel neck grot. I've ordered a replacement neck only for it to be too short, which is a ball ache. I thought the Clipper had a shorter neck, so are there 3 sizes of these? Anyway, can someone point me in the right direction for the correct one for my Clipper?

I didn't know there was 3 to be honest! You want to either talk to mark at vw classic, or classic VW, I always forget!
Or rich at crazyquffs, they do stainless ones, although a little bit more expensive
You're best off replacing the gasket as well, if you haven't already got it

I've seen the stainless steel one, it's a bit salty for my budget. Yeah the gasket is borked so I'll be slapping a new one on too. I just don't want to splash out on the wrong one AGAIN. Will check out your suggestions

When you get the right one make sure you paint it before fitting it as the paint on it when you buy it is to stop it rusting when sat on a shelf and no good once under the wheel arch and getting stones, mud and water thrown at it, I painted mine with expoxy mastic, stone chip paint, Hammerite in white to match the colour of my car the a good coat of waxoyl, the Hammerite has mostly chipped off now so I would not recommend just using that stuff.

Not sure if this is the right one, might be worth a phone call or see and check the part in a store?
http://www.gsfcarparts.com/293vg0130
its also a good idea to change the rubber hose from the filler neck to the fuel tank and 2 new jubilee clips make life easier.
2 sizes again so check it's the right one, gsf website is not great with sizes and info!

There's is at least two different ones. As I think the early cabby 79/80 had the tin top fitting.
Use the google search box on the top left corner search for filler neck. I'm sure there will be a guide to modding one to fit.

Thanks Mark, I assume this is the same but cheap. Maybe I'll buy it to hack up and bodge… er.. adapt carefully

The one in your link is for a tin top so it's slightly different.
Perhaps the old one you have taken off is a replacement which has been made to fit before and the new one you have is right and you just need a longer rubber hose to join it to the fuel tank?

this one is shorter.

in the first picture of your filler necks the new one is a shorter one but the one taken off the car is longer??
