Fuel supply issue? Fuel pump? Could it be the carb needs cleaning/adjusting?

Sounds like a possiblity then mate. Give it a good clean and make sure all is as it should be. That might be the issue. Could be the fuel lines might be dirty? What's it like under acceleration? How's the condition of your filler neck?

I had this problem on a 1300 mk1, turned out to be the rubber gasket that goes between the carb and the inlet manifold.
