What is the connection? and indicator fault
When purchased the speedo cluster was lose and moved around, speedo worked sometimes, indicators worked fine.
Dash opened and found it was only fixed on the top right and had slipped off the two lower "hooks", fitted washers, moved to the right and it was fine.
I noted behind the speedo cable had disconnected completely, that explains in the intermittent speed reading.
Also noted a flexy ribbon connection which did not seem to have a connector to plug into it, it was coveted in dust? perhaps not used can anybody tell me what its purpose.
Prior to opening the dash, the turn indicators worked fine on testing before I reassemble, they do not flash now, green light on the dash stays ON but no flashing on the turn indicators? Any ideas before I reassemble
Thank you
Angus

Blinkers are because you ran out of blinker fluid.

It is a hard thing to find over the counter.
Now that we all had a laugh, when you removed your switch on the Fascia to get to the clocks you accidently shorted the un-insulated connector with the blue/blck wire on your Hazard switch, which is hot all the time to the itty bitty brown or ground wire behind it..
When you short it you blew the higher number of the fuses, ie:16 or 19 IIRC.
If I was you and we all have been, use some heat shrink on that connector so this never happens again.

Thank you, I bow to your knowledge.
I am stunned, blinker fluid?? a new one on me
Could you advise how and where to top it up?
I will check the fuse's, it should be ok as I removed the batt connection before starting but I agree it's easy to happen, even when checking something. Do these fuses power the turn indicator lights?
Thank you again

There does not seem anything to connect to it btw what is MFA, I noted it on the end of the right hand wiper control but have no idea what it was for.
Thanks again

Topped up the blinking fluid, now fine
Checked all the fuses replaced 4 or 5 but still no indicator flashing.
Fuses 16 and 19 treble checked ok
Any other thoughts would be appreciated

Would you have the circuit diagram for the flashing circuit?

Have you googled "Mk1 Golf indicators not working" for example because this is quite a common issue and you're certainly not the first.
Have a read and work through the process. Normally the earth wire (brown) isn't connected or a fuse has blown due to a wire touching the bodywork when the dash was out.
Good work with the Blinker Fluid, it's always out of stock whenever I go for it!! 😉

Test the fuses and remove, don't look at them, use a meter, as the most common issue with glowing turns is a kaput fuse.
The other two items are the hazards switch, and the relay. Not a generic relay, but a honest to goodness VW one.
