6ft 6 man.......very small car

Post

Hi all, completely new to not only the Mk1 Owners Club but the whole Mk1 scene!!

newbie question, might sound daft but here goes.

im 6ft 6 and always wanted a mk1. I recently acquired a mk1 clipper. Unfortunately the seat doesn't go back far enough, or go down. I've been told to get a seat base for a mk2 scirocco as the are more low profile/slimline, but is this the only option? Is there a height adjustable seat base I can use?

Also, this only changes the height, is there anything I can do to make the seat move back further?

thanks all, and thanks in advance for the answers/input

Firstly welcome to the Club, hope you have as much fun from this forum as you will from your Mk1!

As for your problem, sorry I can't give you a definite answer but I do know that people have fitted a wide variety of seats in a Mk1.

Even seats from different Audi's with electric adjustable ones.

So sit tight and wait for the real experts to catch this post!

All the best.

Hi I still have a couple of front seats up in the loft from a Scirocco I used these while my Golf were away being repaired.

The Scirocco seats I have got have a height adjustment lever at the side. The squab under the thigh remains in a constant position near or near abouts while the rear of the seat drops a good few inches.

They do make you sit a good bit lower.  For me at 5ft 9 made the relationship between the fixed steering column and the lower driving position was not to my taste so was more than happy when my seats returned repaired.

As for getting the seat to go further back with my restricted height It was not something on the top of my to learn list so I will let another member answer that one.

Good luck with your search for the solution to your quandary.

Mk1 golf Gti cabriolet seats are height adjustable, there is 2 levers at the front of the seat, 1 to move backwards/forwards and 1 to lower the seat. you sit slightly further back when the seat is lower but as already said the front stay's fixed and the back lowers.

You could take the front seat out and sit in the back, plenty of leg room then.. :-)

Mark, the height adjustable seats.
I've not got them on my 1990, so was that standard only for the GTI version?

I guess so, both front seats in my car are height adjustable and they are the original seats.

If your seats are sport type with bolsters and you want to keep them, look for a MK2f (g40 shape) polo Gt or G40 front driver seat (make sure its height adjustable!) . your seat foam and fabric will swap right over to the polo base frame and then it'll sit a lot lower :)

So. I've just popped out to the car and guess what, I've got height adjustable seats! Awesome!! 90% there now? Could do with either the seat back a tad more or the steering wheel lifting but it's so much better now.

Thanks everyone!!!
