Wiring loom for a 2.0 8v into my mk1 golf

Post

Hi Guys,

I've just got my hands on a 2.0 agg 8v engine for my mk1. It runs the mk1 gti head and standard injection etc. My car is a LHD 1.1 currently and I want to know what loom I need to get for it? do I need a LHD specific loom? or will a RHD be ok? Also Im guessing I just need a standard GTI wiring loom for this? anything else I need?

Cheers!

engine looms arnt sided in mk1s as the fusebox is always on the left side of the car regardless :)

And do I just need a gti loom? Anything else I need?

you'll want the rear loom ideally as it has the fuel pump wiring in, again not sided. everything else can stay :)

Ok, when people advertise Looms are they usually complete Looms? know of any rear looms for sale?

sometimes advertised in sections sometimes you get a complete one, depends on the seller. chances are though any mk1 looms you find for sale will need some kind of repair after 35 years a lot of bodgers have been able to get at them!

after buying two rubbish looms, I bought one from crazyquiff, after 35 odd years you expect a few changes but overall it was very tidy and very affordable compared to what a lot of places were charging!

I also converted from a small block to 2 litre 8v, really it's as simple as you can get in terms of wiring up an injection engine instead of carbs…doesn't mean to say I found it easy, I'm quite the novice :) The master RubJonny came to the rescue many times!
