water pump pulley fouling crank pulley!

Post

As above im running 2.0 agg with dx head and dx ancillaries. got the ancillary belt on this eve and the pulleys are fouling ever so slightly. its the inner lip of the water pump pulley which is causing the problem as it is slightly wider. thinking of grinding it down a painting again but thought i would see if others have had the same problem?!

Thanks

martin

it's the pulleys fouling each other John, I've since discovered there are two sizes of both crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley so I will measure up & hope I have the larger fitted at the moment…..
Think i shall opt for a smaller pump pulley as it is literally a 2mm clash

must be a difference in the waterpump castings, genuine vw waterpump? mk1-3 part numbers are same but the later pumps may be slightly different. there is a parts bulletin notice in the mk1 section about the pump...

It's an aftermarket pump so maybe this is the problem……doh!

To follow up on this I measured pulley last night and it is the 140mm diameter variant so bought a 132 diameter one which will alleviate the problem
