VW Golf MK1 Cabby 16v Conversion - poor / lumpy idle
My 16v conversion on my Cabby in Mallorca, did seem to go swimmingly well, perhaps too well.
Starting is no problem, but the idle is irrational and bumpy. I took the vehicle eventually to my local VW garage and to be honest after 6 months have said it's the wiring to the ICV. I checked this out on the site and got the wiring diagram and a new 244 relay, but this has dumb founded them. Per the wiring diagram, it looks as though the Mk2 ICV and relay only has to connect via 3 or 4 wires, the rest being redundant, on the Mk1 wiring loom. Is this correct?????
Also, per chance anyone on here know a VW specialist or auto electrician on Mallorca. It's killing me having no car :-(

did you fit the full 16v loom? all the wires to the isv control unit are still required when fitting into a mk1. does the isv buzz at least? is the idle switch clicking when throttle is closed? checked all the temp sensors on the head?

Hi there rub johnny, I kept the original Mk1 loom in place, no Mk2 Conversion.
Do I still need to connect up ALL the wires from the 244 relay?
You help is very much appreciated
Cheers

basically you have 2 options, run all the mk2 isv control unit wiring or use a mk1 aav instead of the isv.
i suppose you could leave the over-run cut-off valve off but thats only 1 less wire so you may as well have that working too!
have a look in my sig, g2krecuce1.pdf its all in there, nothign to it

When removing the Mk2 16V loom from the car, is there not a section of the loom that runs behind the centre consul? It could be easily missed as not being part of the engine loom, but it is! Is this the ISV control relays?
