yours will have the centrifugal weights inside for rpm based advance, so you could try removing the vacuum unit and see how it goes without. any vw dizzy (afaik) you find without the vacuum unit for example the one on a digifant gti will be a basic non-advance unit so to run one of those you need external mappable ignition system otherwise it'll be totally flat with no kind of advance.
I assume the timing will be slightly off as the revs increase as it isn't getting the full advance then? I have also read about people adding weights onto to dizzy to correct the timing on old ford's, I take it this isn't needed for my dizzy as it will be close enough as is? Mappable ignition timing is way out of my league so I don't particularly want to go down that route for now

will probably be fine with a tweak to the dizzy position I recon, it is possible to adjust the weights to suit your purposes but you need to find an old skool tuner to do that for you!
I'll give that a good go first then in a few weeks when the engine should be done
