Mk2 GTD into MK1 Guide?

Post

Hi,

Ive got a Mk1 with a 1.5 petrol in it, and have a 1.6 GTD lump out of the MK2 waiting to go in. It has the wiring loom with it and hopefully everything i will need bar the intercooler. Is there any guides that I could have a look at before I attempt the conversion, so I can get a bit of insight? Is it just as straight forward as I hope it will be?

Thanks,

Travis

Straight forward

As easy as changing a wheel

if its a pre-90 mk2 then the loom will plug into your fusebox but the lengths will need tweaking before it fits the mk1 bay. if 90spec you'll have to remove some bits from the mk2 loom and add them to the mk1 loom, mainly its just the core plug relay you need to worry about

Awesome stuff! Are the driveshafts the same? I know that they're a bit of a problem with the bigger engine petrol lumps but would be even better if they are the same :)

And I've heard about the engine mounts being slightly different?

Thanks, Travis

no the mk2 shafts are too long so you'll need mk1 units, which ones depends what flanges the mk2 gearbox has on it, probably will have 90mm if so your old ones will fit.

engien mounts totally different, you'll need to use the mk1 units, possibly some modification for the driver side one because of the fuel pump, mk1 diesel mounts do exist so worst case you'll need to find one or chop up the 1.5 one till it fits
