brake upgrade
Hi fellows!
Looking to upgrade my servo since it still has the shockingly poor original servo.
I was thinking of also changing the discs and I remember reading somewhere that the original GTI vented discs could fit onto my 1.6 carb brake calipiers. Can someone in the know verify this for me please? Which brake pads do I use i.e. GTI or original carb spec pads?
Cheers
Omar

yeah mk1 gofl either have VWII calipers which can take GTI brakes, or the old skool square setup they never got VWI which only take 10mm solid discs.
to be 100% that you have the right calipers look on the outside you should see 'VWII' cast into them clearly. if so, yes you can use mk1/2 gti vented discs and pads

Check and adjust your rear drums, the automatic adjuster are rubbish unless new as the spring pulling them down loses its springiness. Jack up the rear of the car and take the wheel off, look through the wheel bolt holes in the drum till you find the end of the auto adjuster wedge and with someone pressing the brake pedal you pull the wedge down with something poking through the bolt hole, screw driver etc.
There's been a few threads on here about adjusting them, the car does brake on the rear wheels and adjusting the rears up will make the pedal and brakes feel better.
