Flat spot on 2.0 8v any ideas ?

Can anybody help got my 2.0 8v at last but it has a really bad flat spot according to the garage at 4500 revs they almost said it sounds like something Breaking down,they are stumped and me to anybody any ideas?

what engine management is it, mk1 or mk3? if mk3 what engine code is it? if mk1 did you swap the old dizzy over with tsr adaptor and 2.0 gear swapped on?

alrighty have a read of this:

the basics are the same just ignore all the isv etc bits that your car doesnt have, and when setting the ign timing there is no coil wire to disconnect instead remove and plug the vac line to the dizzy. Still 6deg BTDC same as in the guide above though and you may be able to put a bit more advance on depending
