Hi all, im thinking of putting bike carbs on my 1.8 8v cabby, my father in law can get the carbs and make a manifold to suit so im just wondering which carbs would suit best, ive read people use R1 and GSXR750 carbs but im guessing you could really use any, also if i used R1 or Gsxr carbs do you know what they would need jetting out to for the 1.8 8v.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

If I was you I'd contact a few rolling road places that do the kit cars as those boys use bike carbs more than most for a bit of advice

The main jet size will depend on the spec of the engine.
I would start with a smaller size and increase if the engine is running lean. It is common for modified 16v engine to use 180 jets. Obviously a standard 8v would be much less, as you have less air flow through the head.
For comparison, I'm running 180's on my 8v, build thread is here:

Mine R1 carbs got 170 Jets ,i started off with 135 and drill the original jets to 150.
After that i drive to the carb guru and he sorted out the jets.
And gave me 40 hp more than when i arrived.
He did a better job than i did……
Don't know if you did the same Lhasa but the guy closed my brake air injets ,don't know if this is the right word for the UK.

Thanks, that's really use info. I got my R1 carbs prepared by local specialist, so I'll ask them about this. Anymore power is always welcome

I saw approximately 30bhp increase difference between k-jet and R1 bike carbs from the same rollers.
