1.8 20v turbo

Post

hi all, I'm starting to look into doing a engine swap from the 1.8 EX engine to a 1.8 20v turbo on my cabby, just wondering how much it has cost people, wether there is anyone that can help me with technical questions when i have them. also if anyone has a shopping list for the swap that would be great!
I'm looking to buy a full car either a mk4 golf or passat but not sure on gearboxes, with regards to what is suitable size etc.
also if anyone knows of a garage willing to help/do the work around the gloucestershire area. or even if there is anyone who has done this around cheltenham and is able to meet so i can see what is involved, that would be great!

hope someone can help me!!

thanks i advance

Well the above sounds ideal, what the clubs all about!! maybe you could share some cups of tea, packs of biscuits and patience to get your cars done  :)

Once you are started Jaaquo I am sure myself and Scott (the old owner) can pop up one weekend and lend a hand.

Are you coming to the AGM, do you want to join the convoy up on the Saturday, its the best weekend of the year mate, one not to be missed. Also do you fancy joining us on the stand at Bristol Volksfest next weekend?

I know of TSR performance in Yeovil that do conversions like this and there is a 1.8T engine on one of the dub's facebook pages at the moment for £350, I could see if I can find the link … , but buying a whole car is probably easier so you can check how it runs etc

thanks all for the replies! sorry i didn't get back sooner, been floating down the river wye!

dik-van-dub if you could pm me a contact number mate that would be fantastic, would be great to see whats involved!

been thinking it would be a shame to rip apart the cabby, so am thinking of getting a rolling shell tin top and just leaving the final finish empty! just seats and roll cage :)

richyhill i don't think i can make the AGM, i am scheduled to be on a lighthouse in shetland on that weekend, not sure i can get out of it :( and again this weekend I'm scheduled to load lifting in shetland onto a ship.
i shall give TSR a call to find out some more info tomorrow thank you for that! i think a donor car is definitely the best way, that way i have all the essentials to fit the engine :)

rubjonny thank you for the wiring info :) i shall be reading pretending i know what I'm looking at!!
