Calling All Mk1 1.1 Owners, Car Cuts of When Driving.

Hi guys really need help here as my 1.1 engine is driving me mad.  :banghead: When driving it decides to cut out it self, no matter what speed i'm going at, 30mph or 50mph. It gives a few jumps, and it trys to throw me out the seat. It then losses power. I thought it would have been fuel related so I changed the fuel tank filler neck and fuel lines, fuel pump also.

Worked fine for 2 days untill saturday night it died out on me doing 30mph luckly i pulled to the side. I took it to the local garage on monday who so far hasent been able to replicate the problem when they drive it its fine. Can any 1 suggest problems it may have. Before everyone says dirt in the fuel i'v changed the filter up front also seems clean so far.

EDIT: I'v also checked the ignition leads, spark plugs etc etc.  :dontknow:

Jassi

It could be your carb or ignition coil, i could be wrong but if you haven't checked these then i suggest you do, also check the contact breaker gapping and condensor if you haven't already.

as big j said, i'd check the coil and gaps of the points etc. when mine was cutting out by itself though it was a load of rubbish in the fuel and the filter was blocked so he wasnt getting fuel. i'm assuming you've already looked at the filter with you saying you've checked tank, fuel lines etc.
good luck mate :)

I saw a crinkly peanut tomorrow

iv been through all this with both my small engined Golfs, especially the 1.3  anyway, ye as said its down to either fuel starvation, carboeration (i cant spell that  ) is wrong, or electrical problems.

i found on mine i could potter about at 30 no problem, but when i booted it and used up all the fuel in the resevoir it started choking and as you said cutting out, if i let it tick over a while it would be fine. it does sound like fuel to me
