1.3 driver not starting - no fuel

Hiya guys!

ive had a read through and seen various posts which are similar to my problems but nothing that seems to help me out.

so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction…

My car wont start, it will turn over but not fire up.

ive had a look under the bonnet and the fuel filter is completely dry.

i changed the fuel pump to a new unit, and checked the fuel line from the tank to the filter, so thats all clear.

ive been told there may be a airblock in the line? and if i drop a bit of fuel down the carb it will get things running and clear the block.

if anyone can confirm or sugest anything else that would b brilliant.

cheers
adz

i had a few minor fueling problems with my 1.3, especially as it had been stood for a while and there was a fair bit of rust sediment in the tank :?

check your sender unit isnt blocked, (under rear bench) i found the best thing to do is to pour a little petrol down the carb as you said, it should fire up the engine and get the fuel flowing properly. if it runs for a few seconds then cuts out sounds like there is a block :(

or if it still doesnt run atall electrical problems maybe?

It could be a perished fuel line, what happens is instead of sucking fuel, it allows the fuel pump to suck in air.

well it was a blocked line which ive now cleared, so its got fuel coming through and air, but its not sparking so it has to be the coil as it has new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm.

its only done 48,000 so its in pretty good condition under the bonnet, and has been serviced at VW since new. must just be the coil has given in?

what do u think?
