1.1 smoking......

Hi guys & girls,

I have just had the cylinder head on my 1100 golf c rebuilt…..Which was fine…… New Valves, guides, skim etc

However now it seems to be smoking, but not from start up, only when sitting in traffic. I don't know if its the rings, i compression tested it and all 4 cylinders and they were over 150 psi. What should it be?

Its fitted with the weber conversion, and i cannot see any lapse in performance, What else could this be?

Cheers Flash

1.1 smoking!

Greg,

I couldn?t take it anymore, i just stuck my golf in my garage and cracked off the cylinder head, and pulled the pistons. Investigation shows that oil was blowing past the oil scraper ring on number three.

The newly reconditioned head had put too much pressure on the bottom end. It only did it when sitting in traffic, i guess because when the oil heats up it becomes slightly thinner.

I was hoping to just use the original pistons, however they were pretty worn. Further investigation shows that my engine has been bored in the past, so finding the correct rings was impossible. I've had to bite the bullet and buy a new set of oversized pistons…… Quick ?160+vat.  8O  They are on the way as i type, so hopefully should have the car running by the end of the week.

Cheers for the help tho matey,

James  :)
