CV joint? WHich full lock, left or right?
Full right lock, I take it its an MOT failure? if any of the above? dosent seem to affect handling at all, but maybe its always been at fault and not noticed, if i am fussy i would say it takes right hand turns better than left!!

I don't think it is (although I'm sure some others can advise accurately here), but a failed CV joint could be unsafe if it fails and locks one wheel. It might also destroy the transmission and the engine, in the process of failing, if at speed. At the very least you're going to lose drive, to the wheel(s).

Could it not be a wheel bearing? :dontknow:
Wheel bearings tend to whine at any steering wheel position, easy to check for, jack car up grab top and botom of wheel, if it waggles then its the wheel bearing. CV joint won't show on this test.

Rocking the wheel and discovering play could be several things eg worn top mount or wear in dampner.

Kins you can eliminate the above by getting your friendly helper to put a foot on the brake if if still moves then suspect the above. (Tip from my dad when i though my bearing was the problem, it turned out to be the steering knuckle!!)

If you replace only one then you could find the other starts failing soon after and you'd then need to spend out to get camber and tracking done a second time.
The GSF kits contain the spacer that sits inside the bearing in the top mount. They also have new bumpstops and dust boots.
I think the mounts bought seperately are FEBI ones but I'm not sure. The kits are a different make and I've heard they dont last as long. The bumpstops in the kit look pretty cack compared to genuine items and I'm sure wouldn't last long.
Cheers,
Ross

I think I remember reading a thread about V.A.G top mounts and there being different types….. and something about throwing them through a dealers window. I'll try and find it.
