Broken spring, again

Last year both the GTI and my brothers MK1 Driver failed MOT with broken rear springs. Never previously happened in 20 years of VW ownership. Now the Caddy failed on a broken front one. Replacing it was pretty straight forward and also replaced top mounts and bump stops. Did both sides like you?re supposed to and even the apparently good one left about 1/3 of its last coil in the spring pan of the strut when I removed it. Now it sits up almost as much at the front as the back, looks like a 4x4. 8O

The guy at GSF who supplied the bits said it?s the speed humps and pot holes that we have to put up with these days?..

i have had a few with broken rear springs, normally at top first few coils, perhaps its the springs?
