Over Revving Problem

Post

Advise needed to help fix our daily

A bit of advise is needed please, apart from the MK1 we also have a 54 plate Freelander 1 (TD4) which has started over revving. Any ideas what the problem might be, what should I be looking at ??

All help/suggestions are welcome - so far the car has already cost me just short of a grand this year so I'm reluctant to send it to the local garage again as at this rate I'm rapidly running out of cash to get it fixed !

Fair enough to save money my friend but the problem is a bit lacking in detail.
How and when is it over revving?
From cold, warm, hot or all of the above?
Stationary, pulling away or what mate?

Not that I have the answers but we need a bit more meat added to the bone.

And you still might need to  have it plugged in to the computer to find the answer!  :P

My last three Land Rovers, no matter what problem I had, all I had to do was take a 4lb lump hammer to it!

This seems to be a bit of a random problem, I nipped out the other day (only for about 10mins - started from cold) and the car over revved twice. The wife was then out last night on a longer journey and once again the car over revved on a couple of occassions, We haven't been on a long run recently to see if this is just a cold issue or also happens when up to full temp.
When I was out in the car, it appeared to be when changing gear the car continues to rev when the clutch is depressed rather than releasing ?

Apologies for being a bit lite on the info but this is a relatively recent problem.

Give it a blast for 100 mile down the motorway and back to clean the cr^p out of it.
Then see how it behaves the next day or two.

Also known as sh^t or bust!  O_o

Or
Throw money at it!  :'(
Or
Give it to me!
(I still love Land Rovers   ) I know, I know but…

Surprisingly Mike your idea seems to have worked,  a bit of a blast and touch wood no further problems
