You'd hardly even know it's running at idle, then blip the  throttle and it's a beast. Looking forward to hearing a drive by at full chat video!

Sounds & looks amazing Rich!

When is the first road test likely to happen?
Thanks chap it's exactly as I wanted it. My G60 before was incredibly noisy even with the quietest exhaust I could find.

Hopefully in several weeks time. Have a couple weeks off to get it ready for the MOT

I can't wait to get on it and open her up :DProbably have a load of tweaking to do to get it perfect but nearing the end now.

I'm really loving the quietness of the engine and idle exhaust note. No one would realise it has a larger engine, proper sleeper  :ninja:

Noticed the dash wasn't particularly clever in a few places so broke the fibreglass out.

Repair looks good and has added quite a bit of strength :) IMG_20200729_175907131.jpg IMG_20200729_175913419_HDR.jpg IMG_20200729_175917517.jpg IMG_20200729_175922224.jpg

I'm glad someone has tried d fibreglass, that's my plan for mine but never seen anyone do it. Thought there might be some adverse reaction. Any tips or did you just do it as a normal job?

Just checked this morning and everything seems fine, was concerned about delamination of the vinyl but it is still perfect.

I made sure not to over saturate the areas in question, just make sure you cover everything up well to avoid drips getting on the vinyl

Nice one - thanks Rich.
Good point on masking - fibreglass is one of those things that seems to everywhere but where you want it. Hate the stuff.

This morning dad and I put the arches back on and bonnet and ensured it was all aligned properly. I tried some stainless bonnet hinges but unfortunately I couldn't get the bonnet to align where the panel gap was much larger on one side than the other so reverted back to the original ones and low and behold the fit was perfect. Bit baffled really. The stainless ones are thicker and all sets were straight!

Got some stainless early mk1 bumpers to go on which I'll do tomorrow morning and the lower alloy trim which I bought ages ago from Mark at classic vw.

The really annoying issue is I cant find reverse gear. I've posted on clubgti the detail. Its a bit strange as I can get every other gear.

Oh and got this lovely shifter knob off ebay to fit the mk4 shifter rod.

So the interior and dash are now back in and just finishing off bits and bobs that are left over.

I noticed an epic fail on my part. The feed hoses were weeping brake fluid. It appears the hose was not compatible with brake fluid so I decided to scrap the remote system and rework the induction hoses to use a compact reservoir.

Modified and mounted the scoop in the front grill position and got the badge on  IMG_20200814_153412717.jpg IMG_20200814_160044444_HDR.jpg

Now I tried to get my new stainless bumpers on but unfortunately the fitment is not perfect as the metal brackets that hold them in place are at an awkward angle so I've modified the bracket and repainted it for fitment tomorrow .

Oh and got to kick myself. I had a stainless bonnet catch cable clip part number 171823595. I can't find it anywhere and it appears no one stocks them. Anyone got any clues where I can source them? I have tried Mark at classic vw but waiting for a response.

Got the bumpers on front and rear :).

Have some rubber bumper inserts to go in from Mark at Classic VW to finish them off which should arrive soon I hope.

IMG_20200823_124628225_HDR.jpg

This morning made up a short bonnet catch as the stock one was fouling the radiator.

Tuesday I will get the windscreen wipers back on, wash bottle wired up and number plate on and should be ready for final checks before the MOT :)

Big thank you to Mark at Classic VW for the rubber bumper inserts. Looks very smart now :) IMG_20200827_161630547_HDR.jpg IMG_20200827_163513224_HDR.jpg IMG_20200827_163519870_HDR.jpg IMG_20200827_165140899.jpg IMG_20200827_165149513.jpg

Car could do with a really good clean! Think that might be a Saturday job.

Just need to fasten the remaining dash under tray and should be good to go :).

I just noticed your thread here Hef355 :

Hi lads, can anyone advise me on what I need for this conversion please. I have located an Engine, loom and ecu but it comes with a dsg box.

Can anyone tell me if
1. Are there mountings available for dropping the engine in?

2. which manual gearbox are people using for this conversion and which flywheel clutch , other parts required for the job

3. Anything else i need to know and some pointers to possible threads that could help?

Many thanks in advance

Do you need any help with this? Nice R36 build btw
