Yet another job on this car that's turning in to epic-ness of bad proportions!!  O_o

Had a quick go at the caliper bolts - knew they would be seized solid but thought I'd try all the same. No joy so I unbolted the whole assembly off the hub and then used the angle grinder to cut through the pins. That all went well and then used a welding clamp to push the piston back in to the caliper, upon which the seal split!

Hopefully Mr Funk will be to the rescue tomorrow - a tad frustrating I thought but no biggy, will get this off ready for the new one. However, I just can't budge the Goodridge brake line - at either end!  :P I've soaked each end in WD40 in the hope that when I get back on to it it will free but I'm not feeling hopeful.

I'm not sure what my options will be now worst case? I don't really want to be putting the blow torch on a brake line due to fire risk, so that leaves me with replacing the metal pipe all the way to the master cylinder?? Any suggestions welcome!

Tell me about it - it must be punishment for getting such a bargain!

It's tested my patience at times for sure, but I think that whilst the car is very solid, it's just suffering from doing few miles and a long period of time without anything being touched - like the brakes!

That reminds me of Sharon's Sportline brakes when we got it - everything seized.

In the end I did the following:-
(1) Made a complete set of pipes in knufer (CU/NI) with all new ends.
(2) Got a set of braided hoses.
(3) Changed the fronts to Audi 256mm.
(4) Changed the rears to Mk3 disk.
(5) Fitted a 16V Mk2 servo and 22mm master cylinder.

Figured in the long run that would be the best solution !!

Good luck mate :-)

Cheers,
Ade

Yeah much better mate, I think WD40 have a new range out now as well, there might be a dismantling aerosol among them.
