Baggie82's 83 Driver resto

I must be mad project number 2 !

So after nearly finishing my Tfsi cabrio build i've decided to take on a tin top build.
My plans were just to tidy it up a bit and get it on the road as my daily, but after stripping it down today it needs a fair bit of welding doing to it.  Unlike my last build I am going to attempt to do the welding myself so will be a bit more of a slower project.
So far I've found a patch on the bulkhead in the passenger footwell, front floor panels on both sides need sorting and both sills. The rear tubs need sorting, spare wheel well and rear panel & corners. I'm sure i'll find some more work that needs doing once i get the grinder on it.
Here are a few pics since getting the car yesterday:

You like to be busy then!

If it turns out half as good as your cabby then it will be spot-on

Cabby is staying with me for a few years yet Rich. Still have a few plans up my sleeve for it over the next few years, mainly power wise.

Started to strip the floor today of the bitumen to see how bad the rust was. Found a bit more on the bulkhead. The rear drivers pan doesn't look too bad so will replace the front drivers side. Still have to look at the passengers side yet, but when you can see rivets in the floor you know it's not going to be good 😕

So as I said before this is my slow burner and haven't done a great deal to the car since my last update.  I have decided however to go 4wd using the parts from my 4motion golf that I took off the road and broke for parts.
I bought the engine today and managed to pick up a 2.0 abf with all looms , ecu , and keys for £250 and started to strip it as it'll be getting turbo'd and rebuilt. Will hopefully have the tin top into the garage within a couple of weeks so as that I can get it on the rollover jig and start getting some bodywork done.

So I managed to get the engine stripped down and now need to start getting it cleaned up. I'm going to see enviro strip who are local to me about getting the block dipped and cleaned up. I also need to start looking into new parts for the engine. I.e. Pistons , rods , etc.  C:\fakepath\image.jpg

Have finally got around to starting this today O_o  Taking a different direction on the engine as i'm using my 2.8 v6 out of my mk4 golf. I've managed to pick up a few more syncro parts and now have everything to do the 4wd conversion.
I started sanding it down today to see what needs sorting on the exterior and once thats done i'll get around to getting the engine out.
Here it is in it's new home……..More to follow.

So I've not had a great deal of time to get cracking with this project as been busy with work and going to car shows. Managed to get the front panel off and got the engine out ready to start stripping bay back and repairing the holes 🙈. I also managed to get my syncro beam mounts as well.

So over the last couple of days i've managed to get the car on the jig and started to see the extent of the welding that needs to be done O_o  Both front floor pans need to be replaced as expected, lower outer & inner sills need to be replaced and the rear mounts need to be sorted but i'll need to add an extra mounting point for the sincere beam. The drivers rear tub is pretty rough and the rear panel needs to be replaced as well.
I'll get back onto the car thursday and carry on rust hunting.
