Noob Intro:

Hi guys, I'm new here. My name is Christo and I'm from South Africa. I own 2 x 1983 2-door Mk1's, locally known as the Golf GT. Both are running modified 16V motors, one I use as a daily and the other is a fully kitted track car that I can also use on the road.  I also own a 1994 4-door Citi Golf - a work in progress, might go 20VT with this one.

Hello and welcome to the club Torker. Be nice to see some pics of your cars mate.

You should start a build thread in the projects section for the citi golf, would be good to see which way you go with it.

I've only done a couple of Gymkhanas and hill climbs, the majority of my racing is done on our local (untimed) 200m drag strip so I've got some videos of that that I can upload, most of them will be for my ABF GT though, I've only owned the 16V for about 6 months and I'm still busy sorting it out…

Nice…. Hi Christo and "baie welkom". I'm also building a 16V into 2 door but it's a "NEVER ENDING" project. Best of luck getting the 16V sorted. Will be keeping a close eye on your thread since you are quite a bit closer than the UK.

Thanks, I'm not spending as much time as I would like on the 16V, so far upgraded the throttle linkage and replaced the rear gearbox mount with a custom 'captive' mount - normal Poly mount just disintegrates when you drop the clutch (button clutch, 4.25 LSD and Bridgestone semi's = traction!). The car is currently standing at my wife's house - 6 garages FTW,  I need to bring it to my house to do some work on it.

Nice that mounting looks solid. Don't think you'll have any problems with that.

I'm running the same setup in my ABF GT, Poly all around with the rear mount and the engine is rock solid with minimal vibrations.

I'm running webbers instead of the throttles. Still saving up for the manifold and then I need to get the water pipes sorted. Need to still buy them and then figure out what goes where. Any help with that would be much appreciated.     

Water pipes you can make up, I did mine using 32mm alu tubing and silicone pipe bends cut to size and bonded together. Manifold might be more problematic to source, look on Rowland website " http://www.manifolds.co.za/ " if they've got something for you.
